If I ever form a musical group, that's what it's going to be named- "Tasty Gungan".
Despite my recent, pro-ewok posturings (that you can read about over at the superior blog, The Rebel Page-link at your immediate right), I can find little to no reasons whatso-fucking-ever to support Lucas' insertion of the Gungans (or Jar Jar) into the prequel trilogy.
The only use I can see for Gungans is food for Ewoks. And I would be more than happy to deliver said, minced Gungan meat in large, pre-shrink wrapped caches to the Forest Moon in my own YT-1300 space freighter.

Sideshow Collectibles 1/6th G.I. Joe Firefly Quasi Review..

Speaking as a king sized nerd; I've mentioned this phenomenon before, but you know when you get a figure that's so cool , that's so goddamn exciting to open that your hands are trembling so much that you're barely able to free it from its packaging?

Yeah, well, Sideshow's 1/6th Firefly is one of those figures.

To be fair, the bulk of Sideshow's G.I. Joe merchandise has bestowed a similar, plastic induced palsy upon me, but their rendition of Cobra's Go-to saboteur is by far, the best (IMHO) the best Joe figure they've shat out this year.

Okay. Let's go to the pics...

Packaging- I'll say this about Sideshow, they sure know how to stoke the fires of nostalgia that burn bright in the ticker of any true child of the 80's. That classic bomb blast backdrop and stamp of "COBRA ENEMY" + a genuine file card= a huge slice of fried Joe gold.

Okay... here's the fumble...

Yeah. That. Right there. Why the hell is Firefly wearing a solid, dark gray mask? It's the query that sent a veritable amphitheater full of fanboys into a wild eyed, foaming uproar. An uproar so loud (and potentially violent), that Sideshow opted to include a spare, camo painted head. Good move Sideshow. I'd have hated to see anything bad happen to you.

Or your children.

Gear. Shitloads of it. It reminded me of that scene in the movie Commando when Arnie straps on that massive weapons vest.

Only at a 1/6th scale.

I honestly don't mind the solid gray mask. It offsets the camo parka a bit. My one major gripe for the figure is his lack of the Cobra sigil anywhere on his fatigues...

One other teeny tiny gripe- Firefly's fatigues are a bit too clean. Would've been a bit more realistic if he'd had a few splashes of mud across his boots and pants. Maybe some weathering to his jacket...

Sideshow Collectibles 1/6th Imperial Stormtrooper Quasi Review

Okay. So overall, I'm pretty pleased with this one. There's the usual grumblings I make regarding the loose limbs Sideshow's 1/6th figures tend to have (making them nigh impossible to keep upright minus their included stands), but mostly, I'm loving my new Imperial Stormtrooper.
I mean really, what the fuck? Like I wasn't going to love it? It's a fucking Stormtrooper!

I found it interesting that the figure was produced in association with Hot Toys. I wonder to what extent they were involved in the figure's production. Hopefully, HT will show Sideshow how to make a decent rubber muscular body- then maybe we'll finally get a Temple of Doom Indiana Jones, Mola Ram, and maybe a goddamn 1/6th Zartan...

I've been in both hip deep of a bloggin' rut and the summer heat here in Buffalo, NY US of A has kept me more out doors than in (which ain't exactly a bad thing, kids) and away from the ol' laptop.

Having skinked myself out of this balls out item by cancelling my pre-order before its initial release, I ended up Picking this one up at a local retailer (at around the same price I'd have shelled out from Sideshow's website, but far less than I'd shell out for it on Ebay).
I LOVE this figure. Being a zombie fan in general, the prospect of owning a Premium Format zombie figure is more than a bit requisite for Your's Truly. I'd of eventually picked up a zombie PF from Sideshow no matter what, but all that aside, the figure rocks. Amazing pose, amazing sculpt. Feast your eyes on Patient Zero, bitches!!!

Sideshow Indiana Jones KOTCS Premium Format Quasi Review

I'm a huge Indiana Jones fan. When the teaser trailer for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull first hit the internet I spent nearly an entire eight hour shift at work watching, and re-watching Harrison Ford dash across a massive wall of wooden crates, rip loose his trademark bullwhip, crack it securely around a warehouse cieling beam and swing after (and miss) a racing military truck. My jaw slung open the entire time, all I could do was utter the words; "Holy shit! It's... It's fuckin' Indy!"
Needless to say, when both Sideshow and Medicom began shitting out their twin lines of collectibles I was more than pleased.
A little over a month ago, Sideshow's 18 inch Premium Format Indiana Jones figure (as he appears in KOTCS) landed on my doorstep. Here he is, in all his bullwhip wielding, Nazi ass kicking glory...

Another six inch Clone figure; this time from Kotobukiya. The company has been issuing some really, really sweet figures based on the CG show. The sculpts, poses, and paint apps make them look like they're practically pulled straight out of the cartoon...

Hasbro Star Wars Unleashed Clone Trooper

Somewhere around 2001-2002, Hasbro tried there toy making hand at producing a six inch,
McFarlane-esque series of figures for their Star Wars line. The result was a pretty nifty series called Star Wars Unleashed that featured a slew of the franchise's more popular characters in action packed poses.
Keeping with this current week's spate of Troop oriented posts, I submit to you the Star Wars Unleashed Clone Trooper...

My favorite part of this figure is the base- vaulting over the twisted corpse of his fallen clone comrade.

Hasbro did a really nice job with this line. While they couldn't touch the quality of either McFarlane or NECA, the sculpts that they did crap out were still great.

Spawned from my least favorite of all the Star Wars films ("just being around her again is... intoxicating"... Jesus H. Christ Crappin' Out His Own Crown 'O Thorns, will you shut your cake hole already, Skywalker?), the Phase 1 Clone Troopers exhibit one thing that George Lucas' space fantasy accomplishes in spades; Balls out swinging design work.
Seeing the clanking, horded columns of these white armored bad boys marching around in lockstep on Kamino, followed by their prevention of the Jedi forces having their collected asses handed to them on Geonosis was the cats ass, and made up for Episode II's hellishly awful "romantic" scenes between Natalie Portman and that department store mannequin George Lucas cast as Anakin Skywalker...

Been lusting after Sideshow's 1/6th Stormtrooper Commander for a while now. Snagged it at a more than reasonable price over on Ebay.
Epoch's 12 inch Vampire Hunter D was also snatched over on The Bay. Since I've been reading the original novel by Hideyuki Kikuchi, my interest in the character's been primed a bit. Plus, I think he'll fit in nicely with my other shelved monster hunters; Blade, Hellboy, and Van Helsing.
